WHOSE LIFE IS IT, ANYWAY?

You have cleared all the negatives in your emotional life. You have written down your goals. You feel positive and motivated. You begin your journey. Your car breaks down. What the heck happened? You followed the advice and the rules of life and its law of attraction. “Did I do something wrong? “Did God not want me to take this trip?” and all the rationalizations for explaining this come to mind. (the danger of the “Secret” gurus philosophy is when things don’t go the way we expected/desired, it becomes something we did wrong. Rubbish!)

Imagine, for a moment, that your car is your higher Spiritual self. ( you can use your horse or bike or any form of transport for this) You are traveling along and you decide to go left. You turn on your blinker and turn the wheel and you go left. Now, later, you decide to go right. You turn on your blinker and turn the wheel and rather than going right, you turn 180 degrees and are going back the way you came from. As you approached the right turn, the car was shuddering and the flasher lights came on. You assumed there was a problem with the car and ignored the signals. When the car did the 180 degree turn, you looked in the rear view mirror and saw a terrible collsion where you were intending to turn. Those unaware of signals and messages from the inner voice would say, “That was Lucky” and continue to criticize the car for disrupting the trip you had planned. Those who are aware of the messages and signals, would realize the synchronicity of the event and give thanks to the cars decision.

The car’s signals are similar to the still small voice we tend to hear and ignore throughout our lives. This is commonally called our intuition.  It is our life and yet there are times when our plans are altered by events not of our making. So whose life is it anyway? Who really is in charge?  You are!

Our choices are our choices but they don’t necessarily align with the flow of the Universe or life decisions of others.  This creates times when bad things happen to good people or good things happen to bad people. Why this occurs has been the subject of great debates. The attempt to intellectualize the Ineffable will never find the answer we expect or want. How does this reconcile with Free Will?

I use the metaphor of the mouse and the cheese when describing free will. The mouse has free will to choose how to travel through the maze. The mouse is always choosing course and direction. The cheese never moves. There is a way to reach the cheese without undue stress and with the least line of resistance. That is if you choose correctly. The cheese does not tell you how to choose, but if you are not in align with the correct path, you will miss the cheese. So, yes ,you have free will, but if the will does not align with the ”flow” of the maze you don’t find the cheese.

The message is that struggling against the maze is counter productive to your finding the cheese. Stress and frustration are the fruits of your efforts. “Go with the Flow”. Let Life have ownership of life. Allow life to unfold according to the ways and methods of life. Stay true to your inner dialogue and understand that the workings of the Universe, though divergent from your goals and expectations, is ultimately in your best interest and will, finally, lead you to the cheese.
